While we have already recieved an application for this project everything is open until the actual deadline. Note that this specific project is quite advanced since it involves a lot of different components, as well as scripting through Lua.

here are some patches for the libraries, clients and server to make them
compatible to gcc 4.3.
The most frequent problems were an undeclared auto_ptr which is in
<memory> and a lot of str* functions from <cstring>.

Hi,

I've been asked in IRC to give a little introduction of myself here on
the mailinglist.

I first came into contact with Worldforge a few years ago at the
Linuxtag in 2002/03, where someone showed me the Acorn client.
I've been following the webpage since then every once a while, but
didn't think of getting involved with Worldforge.
A few months ago I started with a friend of mine to plan a simple mmorpg
concept (which is still in a very early stage), and we decided to try
the Worldforge framework to see if we could build on that.

Concerning software development I started programming almost 15 years
ago and tried a lot of different programming languages since then, so I
don't have a problem with digging through some code. ;)
I'm also playing keyboard and guitar and I could maybe help with some
audio media. I'm definitely not a graphical artist, anything but
stick-figures is beyond me. ;)

To get myself more acquainted with how all those different Worldforge
parts work together, especially how server and client are exchanging
certain information, I'm in the process of writing a wireshark dissector
for the Atlas protocol.

If there are some small tasks to solve, that would help in better grasp
the Worldforge architecture, I'd like to know. I've seen the blueprints
at launchpad already, but most of them seem to require a deeper
understanding of Ogre, which I don't have at the moment.
Are there maybe some little features missing in some of the libraries or
something like that?

Hi everyone,

I've been pretty busy with essays/exams as my finals are coming up at
university at the moment, but given that the GSoC is about to begin and we
might get a bit of interest in the website, I thought I should probably set
aside an afternoon and try and get it to a finished stage, or at least
polish it a bit. So here's what I've got done on the logo and the site
itself.



First up is the logo. I've redone the image into a PSD file, and now the
globe is a seperate entity from the anvil and the sword. This means I can
change the colour of it, and change the appearence of it generally without
messing up the rest of the logo. I played about for a bit and put together
this, which I'm provisionally putting forward as the final project logo:

Comments, as always, are welcome. I much prefer the lighter blue globe to
the dark blue of the previous logo, and I feel it works much better on the
site. At Kai's request I figured out how to export the logo as a SVG file so
it could be freely resized without any loss of quality. You can find the

I'm not really familiar with Inkscape, the program I used to convert the JPG
to an SVG, so I don't know how to remove the background or even if it's been
converted properly. If someone wants to check it out, feel free to do so.



Secondly, I put together my vision of how I think the Worldforge site should
end up:

I personally think this looks MUCH better than the current site (trying
loading them up and comparing them side by side), and it is essentially only
a series of slight modifications to the proportions, positioning and colours
of the elements that already exist. The only real change is to the way news
is posted on the front page of the site. I'm somewhat mystified as to why
we're still using the current system that links to the developer blog when
it's fairly standard on the web to post the news on the frontpage itself, or
at least an excerpt from it. The system I'd like to implement would still
use the developer journal, but would just provide a snippet of information
to viewers as to what the notice is about. The only thing that it would lose
compared to the existing system is that the really old news wouldn't be as
easily accessible, but then that's probably not a concern to the average
visitor (and the experienced users would know where to find the old news
anyway). Overall I think it be a big step towards the easy accessibility of
information, which I'm sure we can all agree can only be a good thng. On the
technical side, I'm not entirely sure if this is possible using Zope as I'm
more familiar with Joomla, but as Zope's intended to be a CMS I'd be very
surprised if it's not.

So, anyone got any thoughts on all that?

While trying to compile sear 0.6.3, I ran into libsigc++ 2.2.2 issues with 
SigC:: no longer being a namespace. I found this note

which says how to switch the SigC::slot to sigc:slot, which my attached patch 
takes care of. :)

Thanks Marc, those saved me a bit of time. :) I had to modify the cyphesis 
patch to apply against cyphesis 0.5.15 with the attached patch (the change to 
rulesets/Statistics.h would not apply and common/types.h needed to include 
<string>). You may have been working against CVS, which is good for 
generating patches.

The ember_gcc43.patch had this issue (for Ember 0.5.2):
patching file 
src/components/ogre/environment/pagedgeometry/include/ImpostorPage.h
Hunk #1 FAILED at 23.

I've attached an updated ember_gcc43.patch.

The sear_gcc43.patch couldn't find Avahi.h, Bonjour.h, and Metaserver.h. It 
was also missing other includes. I've attached an updated sear_gcc43.patch.

Your other patches applied fine.

I'm still working on more hard disk space for that server - sorry,
couldn't get an appointment for physical access yet.
As soon as this is running, I'll alloc the additional space you asked for.

I was trying to compile ember, so I started packaging many WorldForge
libraries, including Eris (v 1.3.11). And it seems I have somme issues
with it.

I could solve most of the issues (mainly replacing SigC::Type by
sigc::type and adding few header files where necessary). See enclosed
the changes I made.

But now, I can't find the solution any more for the file

For EXIT_{SUCCESS,FAILURE}, these constants seems not to be defined in
<stdlib.h>, but it doesn't seems to be a big problem. But the SigC
errors seems to be more tricky. Take line 181 for example:

    Eris::Logged.connect(SigC::slot(&erisLog));

If I transform it into:

    Eris::Logged.connect(sigc::slot(&erisLog));

It doesn't work:

So if I add the T_return template argument and set it to void (because
in Log.h, it expects a signal2 object with T_return=void):
